Event Summary

As the ADJ Tour grows in popularity, this week’s event had enough players for two groups.

Group One – ( Clark, Stadler, E. Gagnon, C. Gagnon )

On the first hole all the planets must have been aligned because E. Gagnon started the match off with a “recipe for par”. ( recipe for par = fairway hit, green in regulation and a two putt for a par.) With E. Gagnon celebrating his great hole, everyone else struggled with Clark and C. Gagnon taking penalty strokes for lost drives and Stadler getting a bogey. E. Gagnon was atop the leader board after the first hole. We all informed E. Gagnon that he needed to go back to the car and leave now so he could leave on a high note, but stubborn E. Gagnon didn’t listen. After the 1st hole a team match was agreed upon and the teams were Clark & Stadler against Team Gagnon. With some uninspiring golf being played Team C & S took a slight lead. While Team G was being held together by E. Gagnon because C. Gagnon hasn’t played golf for 4 months, Clark & Stadler took advantage and started cooking up there own “Recipes for Par”. By this time the “Recipes for Par” was renamed “Betty Crocker” because of all the recipes Clark & Stadler were cooking up. E. Gagnon was getting pissed at his partner by now, so C. Gagnon informed everyone that he was a “back nine player”. True to his word C. Gagnon woke up on the back and started lighting it up. C. Gagnon won all the par 3 closest to the pins on the back while E. Gagnon’s game fell apart. Now, C. Gagnon was getting pissed at his partner, so E. Gagnon informs everyone “he is a front nine player”. With Team Gagnon not on the same page, Team C & S were cleaning up in the “Betty Crocker Cart”. With a slight run on the back nine for Team Gagnon the match ended up 14–4 with Team Betty Crocker cleaning up. Stadler ending up taking the fairways hit and two of the par 3s, while C. Gagnon took 2 par 3s with one of them being a birdie. Clark shot an uninspiring 83, while Stadler shot one of his best rounds of the year, an 85. C. Gagnon shot an 89 and E. Gagnon limped home, sore back and all, with a 96.

Group Two – ( Breig, Burman, Abell )

Group two featured two new players to the Tour, Mark Abell and Mike Burman. Both were excited to make their debut on the Tour with Abell gunning for the top spot on the leader board. Burman started off on fire, parring the first two holes and was heard to be commenting how much he loved the course. Breig started off with an early lead, but Abell’s putter was keeping him close. On the par 5 6th Hole, Breig made his first mistake of the day and put up a 7. Abell took advantage of this, birdied the hole, and moved atop the leader board. Breig birdied the 7th hole and parred the next two holes, but Abell’s putter was smoking (11 putts on the front) and he had a one stroke lead at the turn. At the turn, Burman decided to stop concentrating on getting the best score and start concentrating more on how he could win the most money. By the third hole on the back nine, Burman came up with the perfect “recipe” for winning the most money – Fairway, out of bounds (for penalty stroke), and then one putt. He put this strategy to use on hole 12 by driving right down the middle, then airmailing the green for a penalty stroke, and then two putting the green for a 6- a terrible score, but he had a fairway and a penalty stroke. Meanwhile, Abell’s putter began to cool off and he put up back-to-back 3 putts. Breig ascended to the top of the leader board with a birdie on 10 and increased his lead with a one-putt par on 11. Abell stayed close, but was never really able to make a charge because of his now ice-cold putter. Burman continued to try and employ his new strategy, but he just did not seem able to put it all together quite right. Burman did tend the day with the penalty stroke lead, and Breig was able to take least amount of putts, G.I.R.s, and one par 3. Abell, with a second place finish in his first tour event, found out that coming in second does not necessarily reserve you a spot near the top of the money list and he currently sits in the 9th position. Breig finished the back nine in even par to take the event with a 73. Abell finished with a 78, and Burman struggled with his new “recipe” and carded a 90.
